Rock and recycle! – Argentine sculptor creates functional guitars with scrap metal

The Argentine sculptor Andres Lemos, known for transforming recycled metal into pieces of high visual impact, is once again breaking into the international cultural agenda after gifting Charly Garcia a unique sculptural guitar, made entirely from recovered gears, screws, and mechanical parts.

The piece, inspired by the classic Les Paul, was delivered to the icon of Argentine rock for his birthday. The work highlights the philosophy that, according to Lemos, guides each of his pieces: converting industrial remnants into functional instruments capable of producing music.

Footage filmed on Wednesday in Buenos Aires shows several guitar models designed by Lemos, with visitors touring the exhibition and taking pictures of these unique elements.

«Well, the electric guitars are functional. They are made from coins, car parts, and bike parts. The idea was a bit to make art that generates art, a work of art that can be touched and that generates another work of art, which is music,» commented Andres Lemos.

The artist Andres Lemos mentioned that the main goal of his work «was to pay a small tribute to classic guitar models. You have SG, Telecaster, Stratocaster, Floyd, Flying V,» making each one to the exact measurements so they sound and can be calibrated properly, «and also to respect the weight, because many times people see it and say ‘no, it could be that they are very heavy, they will be impossible to play’,» he added.

One of his most disruptive guitars —a metallic piece with the silhouette of an AK-47, built from recycled metal— was used by the Argentine musician Catriel during his presentation at the Movistar Arena on May 28, 2025.
